Student-athletes may need to attend a two year school before transferring to a four year college, or student-athletes may wish to transfer from one four year college to another for various reasons.
As a transfer student, it is necessary that you follow the recruiting process all over again. This includes reverse recruiting, marketing yourself, and positioning yourself as a balanced student-athlete.
If you are coming from a two year school -- you must be bold in order to find the best opportunities for yourself!
Call and e-mail college coaches at four year schools. Be sure you have a good relationship with your current coach - as they'll be asked about your ability to contribute in attitude and skill at the next level.
If you want to transfer from one four year to another the athletic director from your current school will need to release you to talk to the other school's athletics staff. If you haven't spoken to your current coach about your desire to transfer and a release request comes in it could cause big problems for you. Be sure to keep the communication lines open. Your maturity will be appreciated by all involved. It will make the next coach more eager to have you.
