The ACT

This test is comparable to the SAT. More students in the South and Southeastern parts of the United States take the ACT than the SAT. We recommend (and so do coaches and colleges) that you take this test or the SAT at least one time in your junior year.  That way you have time to re-take it a time or two if you do not get what you think you should. It is best to register a few months in advance to get your preferred testing site. Remember - taking the ACT two or more times is your best chance at success.

ACT Writing Section

The ACT has recently made changes in their test; one of the most significant changes is the addition of a writing component. On the ACT, students will now be asked to write an essay. The ACT writing section is optional.

The NCAA Eligibility Center does not count the writing section in the sum score.

PLAN

The PLAN® program helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.

As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT. At the same time, many schools recognize the importance of PLAN testing for all students, as it focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic achievement.

Typically, PLAN is administered in the fall of the sophomore year.
